NFL Playoff Predictions by Monta Hale
Playoffs!! Playoffs!!
Every time I hear or read that word I can’t help but remember Jim Mora’s rant when he was the head coach of the Colts.
Back when they weren’t perennial playoff participants.
It always makes me laugh.
But it is that time of year again.
It is NFL playoff time .
It is the time of year when those with dogs in the fight (Not YOU Michael Vick) are on the edge of their seats.
Fans of playoff teams are in anticipation of their team’s first playoff game.
They are calculating the road to the Super Bowl and who their team will have to beat to get there.
I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but let’s get real.
There are six teams in each conference, but only two teams in each conference realistically have a chance to make it to the Super Bowl.
I will take the next couple of days to break down the Conference races and let you know who I think has a legitimate shot at making it.
Then I will make my prediction on who wins it all. I hope to stir some things up and get the juices flowing so to speak.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out who those two teams are in the AFC, and believe me I’m no rocket scientist.
The only two teams in the AFC that have a chance of making it to the Super Bowl the New England Patriots and the Colts.
These two teams are the class of the AFC and no other teams are even close.
Sure the fans of the other teams will want to make their points and state why their team has a shot, but it is a bigger pipe dream than the Mario Brothers.
So let’s all put down the myopic lenses of fanaticism and really take a long hard look at the teams.
Tennessee Titans – This team doesn’t have a snow balls chance in Hades.
They backed into the playoffs because Indy sat their starters on offense and defense for three quarters of the game and then they were barely able to beat Indy’s backups.
Prediction: Titans will lose early and badly.
San Diego – LT is probably the best athlete this side of Devon Hester in the NFL, but the QB caries teams in the playoffs.
The QB in San Diego is not only young but he is about as mature as a spoiled 4yr old at a birthday party.
Just check out the preschool rant he was performing when the Chargers played the Broncos.
You need a pro QB to win not a brat.
Jacksonville – They are a good team.
Probably the third best football
team in the AFC and the only other team besides the Colts that have a punchers shot at beating the Patriots.
But they can not beat the Colts.
They don’t have enough offense to compete with the Colts or the Patriots.
Quick - name the big time receivers on the Jaguars team? You can’t and neither can they.
Fill the box with eight and stop the run against Jacksonville and Garrard will not beat you.
That leaves the Colts and the Patriots.
They are the only two teams in the AFC that have a chance at making the Super Bowl.
The Patriots have had the best regular season in NFL history.
Brady has had the best season by a QB and Randy Moss has done likewise for WR’s.
The Patriots are heavy favorites to not only make it to the Super Bowl, but to win it all.
So the smart man would take the easy road and pick the Patriots, right?
Which team has the better running game?
The Colts.
Which team has the better run defense?
The Colts.
What do you have to do in Foxboro in January in order to win?
Run the ball and stop the run.
This plays into the Colts hands and not the Patriots.
I am going out on a limb and no one is forcing me to do so.
Prediction
The Colts will make it to the Super Bowl from the AFC, because they are currently built to play a grind it out cold weather game.
In the next day or so I will take a look at the NFC and the Super Bowl itself.
