Do I attempt this myself, or make the phone call?

Fix, Repair or replace the faucet or fixture?
It’s Saturday evening and you and your wife are having a few friends over for dinner.
Your wife turns on the faucet and gets sprayed with water, (right in the face).
After you pick yourself off the floor from laughing, (plan on spending the night on the couch), you come to the rescue. Or do you?
Anyone who owns their own home has probably dealt with a similar situation.
The big question is, do I make the repair myself or do I call in an “expert”.
Let’s face it; some people should never attempt any kind of repair, but what about the folks who are somewhat handy and like to do things themselves?
Here are some thoughts to consider when you are deciding whether or not to go it alone.
First, why would you want to attempt the project yourself?
For most people the cost in hiring someone is a big factor.
Then there are just some folks that like to get their hands dirty.
This includes females as well as males.
Lots of females are very capable of doing repair jobs themselves.
Second, you need to be honest with yourself on whether or not you can do the faucet repair or install yourself.
Do you know what you will need to complete the job?
This includes both material and tools.
Fixing the faucet may look easy, until you have it taken apart.
Then it’s your wife’s turn to pick.
Third, time is a factor.
Do you have the time to take on the project?
If it takes an expert an hour to replace the faucet, it will take you twice as long.
Do you have time to start and complete the job?
Of course the big one is money.
You really need to consider whether purchasing all the parts and then your time spent doing the repair will really save you money.
Smaller jobs, caulking around your sink, replacing a door stop, fixing a doorknob are going
to be less expensive if you tackle it yourself.
However, if you have a more complicated job then hiring a local plumber or contractor who has experience maybe easier on your wallet and on your life.
