Guide to Protein Powders. Lesson #3 “Selecting a Flavor”

Whey protein and meal replacement shakes come in a variety of different flavors. Each flavor of powdered protein will taste slightly different. Each company will use different ingredients resulting in slight taste variations. Some of the flavors available you find for sale are:

* Vanilla
*Banana
*Chocolate
*Strawberry
*Cookies N Cream
* Peanut Butter
*Natural
*Strawberries and Cream
*Pomegranate Fruit
*Dutch Chocolate
*Chocolate Caramel

If you are undecided about what flavor, I would suggest either Vanilla or chocolate. Vanilla mixes well with just about anything, and Chocolate is a personal favorite. I have not personally tried Dutch Chocolate or Carmel Chocolate, but I imagine they too are tasty. I was not fond of the strawberry as it was unusually sweet and hard to mix.

You mix these powders with water or milk to create your master piece. Water works well, but milk will maximize the number of calories and grams protein. www.gnc.com suggests using skim milk, but regular milk will work as well. Milk will give your protein powder a viscous milkshake like consistency.

Close your eyes and pretend your whey shake is straight from the McDonald’s drive thru. The taste is what you make it. If you want to mix things up, throw in a scoop of peanut butter, yogurt, or ice cream.
