Buying a Refurbished Home Theater?


I am always looking to find the best deal possible.

Whether it be a hidden jewel at the local yard sale or clipping a few coupons when I go out to dinner to cover the tip I always try to get the best value out of my money.

However, I have always wondered about buying factory refurbished goods.

Is it a better investment to buy the brand new top of the line home theater projector?

Or is it a better value to go with the slightly used refurbished model?

Buying a home theater is a big decision that should be well thought out.



My experience with refurbished goods was by means of car stereo equipment.

I purchased what I thought was going to be a great deal for a dvd player, television monitor, and cd player with woofers and amplifiers with “slight cosmetic blemishes.”

Well the system worked great for two years and then gradually faded out into a distant silent abyss.

My experience with buying factory refurbished goods has not been a pleasant one.

I do not think I would buy a refurbished home theater.

After shopping around I found that getting NEW products can be less than refurbished if you shop right and use the discounts available.


A home theater should be a peaceful sanctuary with many hours of great times.

My advice would be to buy new and wait for a sale or promotion.
