Music Review: AFI- Sing the Sorrow

This album came out almost five years ago, but is for sure AFI's best release.

The album overall has a lot of electronic elements to it which is different than what AFI usually puts out.

There is a lot of intermingling of genres as well as sounds making this album the most distinct of the many put out by AFI.

On "Death of Seasons" AFI starts off with a soft melodic sound and as it gets deeper into the song, you hear the drums pick up and it gets into the real hard AFI old school sound that you might hear on 'Black Sails in the Sunset' (one of the earlier releases by the band.)

On 'Leaving Song Part II', you get the hard punkish sound that you are accustomed to and on 'Leaving Song' you get a very poppy song thats practically an instrumental compared to the other songs on the album.

In other words, this record goes back and forth between the raucous punk sound to the pop style that AFI clearly tried to incorporate into Sing the Sorrow.

It is indeed different from their previous releases, but AFI did this for a reason.

They clearly knew if they transitioned a bit from their traditional sound, it would benefit them in terms of sales and at the same time would appeal to a more broader base of listeners to this band.

This record has some mileage on it but it is most definitely a classic.

I know that InAllHonesty would most certainly agree with me on that.

If you have been a fan of Davey Havok throughout his career and have not heard "Sing the Sorrow" I would highly suggest getting into it.

Cheers.
