FeedTheVillage.com - Tips and Advice: Online Tutoring: GlobalScholar.com compared to brick and mortar centers.

Google

These were interesting to me as they were applications that will serve the student through all study and courses for the rest of their life.

Even if tutoring on any specific subject is not on the agenda I absolutely would recommend these 2 programs for all students.

I also realized it was truly a New Era in education when I could find tutors in Business, Communication Skills, Fact Checking, College Admissions, Organization, College Admissions, Basic Automotive Repair and some Niche Courses - Kehilla (Community), Special Education and even getting College Credit for what you already know all in one place.

Availability, Convenience and Price

We live about 20 minutes from where the nearest tutoring center is located, are involved in the typical activities like School functions, Boy Scouts and sports so time and availability is a big factor and concern.

When I factored in the travel time plus the preparation for travel that is the "time alloted for getting the kids in the car, making sure they have everything they need, fighting with them about getting their shoes on..." I realized that I would be spending approximately an hour just getting to and from the tutoring center.

**That does not include stop at the gas station, fast food restaurants or emergency restroom stops and What would I do for the hour that my son inside was in being taught.

GlobalScholar.com
offers the following options:

* Instant Tutoring * Scheduled Tutoring * Homework Help * Self-guided

At the local brick and mortar center - just trying to get a schedule convenient for us was difficult.

All things being equal - There is no question that this is a HUGE advantage over the "brick and mortar" tutoring centers.

MY son pointed out - "With a laptop and the wireless card he could be learning WHILE we are Driving!" - I think he was just trying to sell me on him getting a laptop and wireless card.

On the question of price I found that the tutors were less expensive than the brick and mortar counterparts and far less expensive than a tutor that will come to the house.

Factor in Gas and the value of time and again the edge goes to GlobalScholar.com
.

So finally the big question...

Results and Effectiveness

GlobalScholar.com
offers a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee so at a minimum the money you have spent is protected. I have always felt the best guarantees are the ones you never have to use!

I was very comforted to see that in Jan 2008 the State of South Carolina entered into a Public-Private Partnership to provide a statewide online curriculum program.

I also thought it was cool that every session was recorded so that the student could review the lesson. In my case it would also allow me to review the lesson with kids.

In conclusion:

After careful consideration and discussion with other parents, huge amounts of time on research and with the best interest of the student as well as the parent in mind I can whole heartedly recommend GlobalScholar.com as what I consider the best resource for tutoring.

Quite frankly, I am currently researching the best language programs.

Once I decide on which language and which program I will be using their services myself.
