New Years Resolution:
With the passing of 2007, and the beginning of a new year upon us, I was thinking about all the resolutions that people will be making for the new year.
Some people will want to diet, exercise, stop smoking, etc.
This list could go on and on and would vary from one person to the next.
One thing that most have in common is that they will fail at reaching these goals. So often we have high aspirations and set lofty goals for ourselves, only to fail in the end.
While all these resolutions are positive steps toward a more healthy lifestyle and certainly goals that we should all aspire to, none are as important or life-changing as a decision to give your life to Jesus Christ.
The best thing you can do for yourself in the new year is to accept the free gift that God has given to all, which is salvation through his son,Jesus Christ.
Why do we need to make resolutions for the new year? The answer to this is because of sin.
If there were no sin we would live in a perfect world and would always do the right thing, thus never needing to make resolutions to do better. Because of God's love for his creation and desire for eternal fellowship with humankind, he has provided a way for our sin debt to be paid.
This payment is in the person of Jesus Christ, the only one who never needed to make a resolution.
Jesus acted as our substitute, dying an excruciatingly painful death in our place.
Not only did He die for our sin, but he also overcame death through His resurrection, and promises eternal life to all that believe on him.
How do you accept this free gift?
This is the beautiful part of Christianity that sets it apart from the rest of the religions of the world.
Most religion will require you to clean up your life, perform certain acts, etc.
With Christianity all you must do is come to Jesus as you are, with a repentant and believing heart.
All you must do is repent of your sin and be willing to turn from it and believe in Jesus Christ and what He did for you. Romans 10:9 "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." John 11:25- Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me will live even if he dies."
So why not start this new year with Jesus walking next to you, helping to reach those resolutions, rather than trying to get there on your own.
Happy New Year!!
