FeedTheVillage.com - Tips and Advice: Slim Stanley
My daughter is homeschooling now; but we decided to make a Slim Stanley using the face of one of her church friends (you could use a cut-out of your child's favorite movie or television character). We asked permission, of course, to take a picture of this person and promised to share with him when Stanley returns.
We pasted the cut-out photo onto a cowboy body because we live in Texas. His journey will take him to visit a pen pal my daughter has in Alaska. We haven't decided the time-frame yet, but I think a week or two will be enough time for him to accompany our new friends around the area. This pen pal is also sending us a Slim Stanley so we can do the same for her. It's a fun idea for us even though my daughter is a teenager now! She can take her Stanley to church to share with the youth.
A hint is to make Slim Stanley strong enough to survive his journey and choose the right time to send him. We glued ours to thick cardboard of the same basic shape. If your person of choice is going on a trip, he or she might agree to take Stanley along. If there has been an unfortunate event in the chosen family, you may want to wait until a better time to start the journey. Also, you'll want to make sure he is big enough to see from afar if your friend who shall receive him will be taking photos with or of him. A tiny Slim Stanley will not show up well at a distance.
So, get your Slim Stanley ready and enjoy the project with your child! There should be no age limits to stay young at heart.
