The Boston Celtics are back in Big Way - 2008
The Celtics are back in a big, big way. Being a Celtics fan for as long as I can possibly remember I have been through good times of which there have been few, and the bad times of which there have been plentiful.
It is a redefined bunch the
Celtics
have this year.
Clearly, the 'big three' of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen have made this franchise competitive again.
Not only are they competitive, but they are blowing most teams out.
With a record of 33-6 the
Celtics
are going into tomorrow night's game with the Toronto Raptors (who they have already beat twice this season.)
As they reach the halfway point in the season, the
Celtics
have the best record in the
NBA
by far and are on pace to win 70 games.
They probably will not match or top the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls who went 72-10, but they will undoubtedly have their best season since the Larry Bird, Kevin Mcchale and Robert Parrish era.
A big reason the Celtics are doing so well is coaching.
Doc Rivers, who throughout his career has been questioned about his ability to motivate his players is finally showing his true colors because for once in his career he has some real talent to work with.
He also deserves all the credit for developing young players such as Rajon Rondo and Glen Davis (Big Baby) and turning them into very important role players to help the 'big three'.
James Posey, who is the only player on the team to win an NBA Championship has been an integral acquisition for the Celtics along with Eddie House who has added his fantastic shooting from the outside to help out off the bench.
There is one thing that unites Allen, Pierce and Garnett and that is the fact that they have not won an NBA Championship.
They are as hungry as ever this year and have a real opportunity to make their dream a reality this year.
