NFL: NFC Playoff Predictions

Yesterday I covered my playoff predictions for the AFC.

Today it is the NFC’s turn to be picked apart like the Christmas Turkey until nothings left but the bones.

The NFC has teams that have over come adversity to make it to the playoffs and those that coasted in playing in weaker divisions.

Who will come out on top and why?

Washington Redskins – They are probably one of the hottest teams in the NFC right now.

They had every reason to close up shop and go home early with the tragedy of Sean Taylor’s death.

But instead of crumbling under the grief that undoubtedly has engulfed every player, coach, and employee of the Redskins, the team has played inspired and great football.

They won four straight to propel them into the playoffs, including a decisive victory against the top dog Cowboys.

The Washington Redskins have been playing off of raw emotion, grit, and determination.

Collins, the back up QB to start the year, has turned things around and has played especially well.

But the emotion that has propelled them will lose its potency and the will not make it to the Super Bowl.

Seattle Seahawks – Mr. Chunky Soup, Matt Hasselbeck, has had a great year.

He has thrown for nearly 4,000 yards and 28 TD’s. But a cup of Starbucks coffee is stronger than the Seahawk running game.

Shaun Alexander is averaging 3.5 yards per attempt.

Bobby Engram has almost more receiving yards than Alexander and Maurice Morris combined.

I’ve said it before; you need to be able to run the ball in the playoffs to win.

Seattle is too one dimensional to win.

NY Giants – The Giants fought New England tooth and nail and nearly pulled off an upset.

People will remember that game and will say, “If they can nearly beat the Patriots, they should be able to beat anyone in the NFC.”

Giants have a good defense, a decent running game, and Eli Manning (little brother of Peyton Manning) is the QB for the Giants.

But someone needs to send a “Priceless Pep Talk” to Eli telling him that he is no Peyton.

In fact, they may need to do DNA testing to prove to me he is actually a Manning.

Eli is inconsistent at best and you need good consistent QB play in the playoffs to advance.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – They are 18th in the League on offense and 2nd in League on defense.

This to a normal person would sound like a good combo, but the Buccaneers play in the worst division in football.

The receivers for the Buccaneers are bad, the running back was third on the depth chart to start the season, and the coach is nick-named after an ugly doll (bad chucky bad).

This is a horrific combination to me.

Well that leaves the Green Bay Packers with Brett “Methuselah” Favre and the Dallas Cowboys with Tony “keep Jessica Simpson away from me” Romo.

It will be the old gunslinger versus the young gun.

Dallas won the first meeting between the two earlier in the season.

So, a rematch would favor the Dallas Cowboys , especially since it would be played in Texas Stadium.

But, if you haven’t figured it out yet, I don’t like to go with the flow.

I believe that Dallas, both offensively and defensively, has been on the decline for the past several weeks.

The Packers, with Ryan Grant, have found their running game and have been balanced offensively.

The Packer defense has been strong all year.

Running the ball and good defense wins games, so the Packers will win the NFC crown and meet the Colts in the Super Bowl.

Well, I will take a look at the match up in the Super Bowl next time.

The following are my picks for the games being played this weekend.

Chargers over Titans - Is there really any doubt.

Seattle over Washington - Washington stops the run, but Seattle can’t run.

Tampa Bay over New York - I flipped a coin.

Jacksonville over Pittsburgh - Jacksonville’s running game and defense too much for Pittsburgh.
