The day I truly became a man was the day my child came into this world.
It was a day of uncertainty for this twenty-nine year old who already thought he could handle anything that came his way.
I had lost my father to cancer at the age of twenty-five, and through the years I learned to deal with it and move on with my life.
When we learned that we were going to have a baby, my life went on relatively unchanged with day to day routines and work in general.
I procrastinated getting the babies room together as I thought I had more important things to do. The day finally came and we were up bright and early to go to the hospital to start our new journey in life.
I, being the tough guy that I am, was calm and cool ready for anything.
As the time grew closer to delivery, the mood started to change in the room.
There seemed to be a new uneasy, unfamiliar air about the room.
As things progressed, I became more anxious and a little unsure of what was about to take place.
Was I ready to try and raise a child?
Doesn’t matter now because it was way too late, it’s not as if I could hit the pause button and rethink what I had done.
So we carried on with the task at hand and started the delivery process and I acted as brave as I could possibly muster.
After all, you don’t want your wife, who is lying there in a great deal of pain, making fun of you and calling you a sissy.
Finally the big moment arrived and came off without a hitch.
I had made it through without fainting or having a nervous breakdown.
All was well and we were the proud new owners of a baby girl.
I had seen a side of my wife that day I had never seen before.
She was the tough one that day having not been able to have the luxury of medicines to help with the pain.
Yet she powered through with the determination of a soldier.
WOW!
She was definitely my hero that day.
The years have past and we have had a fantastic life.
My daughter is the biggest accomplishment in my life thus far. She is definitely a daddy’s girl.
She loves to follow dad around while he works on things around the house and other projects while asking question after question on the how’s and why’s of how things work.
I am a VERY PROUD father with a curious and smart little girl.
Now, having said earlier that we were the proud owners of a little girl, she is the proud owner of very loving parents and yes, they are bosses and most of the time I do what I'm told.
I would not change my life for all the riches in the world.
I already have everything a man could ask for with a beautiful wife and daughter who tolerate me for who I am!
