TOP WATER BASS FISHING
To me there is no better fishing than throwing a buzz bait and having a large bass try to dismember it.
It is the greatest adventure on water.
I have to tell you that I make my own buzz baits and I’m slightly biased.
I make 3/8 ounce baits with hand tied living rubber skirts and an aluminum clacker on the arm for added noise.
If you have a 7’, medium action rod, you can have a real good time even catching small bass. I think the proper way to use the lure, is to retrieve it at slow steady pace.
I place an aluminum clacker on the arm of the lure to make as much noise as possible.
I use a Shimano bait caster with a 5:2 ratio and 17lb test line.
A tough, non-abrasive fishing line with little stretch is what I prefer.
The limber rod helps to alleviate some of the tension that the heavy line applies when setting the hook.
Now, it does take some finesse when top water fishing due to that natural instinct to jerk the bait away from the fish when they strike.
After throwing this lure for twenty some years, I still get excited and have to remind myself to wait. Most people do not have the confidence in this lure that I have and don’t utilize it to its potential which I really don’t mind because it gives me a great advantage.
Bass will strike a buzz bait from the time the surface temperature gets to about 60 degrees through the late fall.
If you take the time to try this lure, you will have an absolute blast.
