World Travel and Hotels Guide: Beaches Grande Sport- Ochos Rios Jamaica

Several years back I was fortunate enough to take a family vacation to Ochos Rios Jamaica and stayed in the Beaches Grande Sport. I must say this is by far the best vacation I have ever been on. We booked this trip through our travel agent and it was by no means cheap Caribbean travel; the only down side to the trip.

The resort was the nicest I have ever set foot in. The rooms were apartment style with a shared private pool. The rooms were clean and well decorated. The food was fantastic. The all you could eat buffet had something for everyone, and was loaded with Jamaican Jerk food.

I was a big fan of the spicy chicken that is a delicacy in Jamaica. The resort was great because it had so many on sight activities. There were many pools and Jacuzzis, a rock climbing wall, a spa, a racquet ball court, a billiards table, tennis courts, and a variety of other organized activities. The only down fall to the resort was the beach was a long walk or short shuttle ride away from the premise.

The thing that surprised me the most was the kind easy going spirit of the local Jamaicans. I had heard many rumors of violence, crime, and drug trafficking; none were a problem on the resort.

I would recommend if you leave the hotel that you stick with a local guide who knows where the tourist friendly places are located. The staff was great! The laid back and funny waiters enhanced the dining experience.

There was always reggae music playing and even a trip to go see the great Bob Marley’s house.

If rum is your drink of choice, there is none greater than the local Jamaican brewed rum. Make sure you know what proof alcohol you are drinking, Jamaica is known for its potent rum cocktails that will have you singing in no time. If you drink in the sun, stay hydrated!

I would highly recommend Beaches Grande Sport in Ochos Rios Jamaica to just about anybody looking for a fantastic warm get away. However, I would say the hotel is geared for a younger crowd.
